POSITION:
Family Worker- (Bilingual in Spanish is desired)
CLASSIFICATION: Regular, Full-time
(Mon-Fri) (40 hours/week)
Universal Essential Functions
-
Be familiar with and adhere to the Head Start Program Performance Standards
(HSPPS), State of Michigan licensing requirements,
Education and Children's Services (ECS) policies and
procedures and agency personnel policies and
procedures.

Maintain an open, friendly, professional
relationship with all staff and families, to include
respect for culture, diversity and ethnicity.

Foster communication among staff and families to
promote strong, supportive teams and resolve
conflict in an appropriate problem solving manner.
-
Encourage volunteerism and maintain accurate
documentation of In-Kind contributions.

Reliability, dependability and attendance.
General Essential Functions
-
Maintain required records and make required reports
for center, child and staff to ensure that "State of
Michigan Licensing Standards" (licensing) and "Head
Start Program Performance Standards" (HSPPS) are
met.
-
In collaboration with Family and Community Services
Team, Child Development Team, and Site Coordinators
develop methods to increase family involvement.
-
Attend conferences/training to continue professional
growth and development.
-
Establish and maintain a positive, effective working
relationship with staff and families of varying
educational and cultural backgrounds.
Position Specific Essential Functions
-
Assist families in acquiring and applying knowledge
regarding family development, available community
resources and identifiable strengths/needs.
-
Spends time in the classroom to observe so as to
better communicate with families on their child's
development.
-
Responsible for recruiting, ensuring eligibility,
enrolling children and connecting families with
available community resources.
-
Conduct regularly scheduled home visits with
assigned families.
-
Ensure stable, uninterrupted support to families and
children before, during and after their ECS
experiences.
-
Empower families to be part of their community and
assist them in enhancing or developing their own
understanding of community resources and
involvement.
Minimum
Qualifications:
Minimum of Associate's
Degree in Human Services, Family Life Education, Social
Work or a related field. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience:
Between one and
three years of progressive responsibility or expansive
experience in Human Services is required. Bilingual in
Spanish is desired.
SALARY: $12.55/hour

Strong organizational, documentation and communication
skills. Ability to self-direct and manage multiple
tasks/projects. Positive oral and written communication
skills with public-speaking ability and meeting
facilitation skills. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

Physical examination, Tuberculosis (TB) test every
two years.

Computer skills required.

Current First Aid and CPR certification required.

Must be able to bend, stoop and kneel and life up to
60 lbs.

Valid driver's license with a driving record in
compliance with Community Action insurance carrier requirement
and reliable transportation.

Must be able to pass a Drug Screen, National Sex
Offender Registry Check and Criminal
Background Check

provided by Community Action, ECS.
